The Brook Early Education and Care - Girls playing on the lawn

About

Located in leafy Gordon Park, just 15 minutes from the Brisbane CBD, we offer our services to families predominantly living on Brisbane’s northside.

As an early learning centre, our philosophy at The Brook is that each child is unique, and as such, we cater to their individual personalities and optimal potential through our innovative implementation of ‘learning by playing’. See The Brook’s philosophy here. By doing so, children are better able to understand the world in which they live through our planned early education programs which activate their capacity to participate, communicate, investigate, create and reflect.

We enjoy the benefits of great relationships and partnerships with local schools, businesses, sporting clubs, Emergency Services, Hospitals and the many local charities we gladly support through hosting events and fundraising.

Education

Reggio Emilia Approach

Our educational approach is inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy, which aligns closely with Australia’s Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and is based on social constructivist theory. This means children learn best through relationships, hands on experiences and meaningful interactions with others. Reggio Emilia supports inquiry based learning, where children are encouraged to ask questions, explore ideas and think critically – key skills for the 21st century such as problem solving, communication, creativity and collaboration.
Some of the guiding principles that differentiate Reggio Emilia’s education from similar child-centred methods include:

  • This approach values depth over speed, relationships over rote learning, and wellbeing alongside development, preparing children not just for school, but for lifelong learning.
  • Learning happens through a strong partnership between the environment, the educator and the child.
  • Carefully designed learning spaces and materials invite curiosity, while skilled educators work alongside children as guides and partners, extending ideas through project work that develops over time.
  • Children are encouraged to think critically and express their thoughts
