The Brook Early Education and Care - Girls playing on the lawn

About

Located in leafy Gordon Park, just 15 minutes from the Brisbane CBD, we offer our services to families predominantly living on Brisbane’s northside.

As an early learning centre, our philosophy at The Brook is that each child is unique, and as such, we cater to their individual personalities and optimal potential through our innovative implementation of ‘learning by playing’. See The Brook’s philosophy here. By doing so, children are better able to understand the world in which they live through our planned early education programs which activate their capacity to participate, communicate, investigate, create and reflect.

We enjoy the benefits of great relationships and partnerships with local schools, businesses, sporting clubs, Emergency Services, Hospitals and the many local charities we gladly support through hosting events and fundraising.

Education

Reggio Emilia Approach

This learning method follows a child-centred early educational philosophy hinged on the belief that children are powerful and capable individuals, with the ability and desire to construct their own knowledge.

Here are the guiding principles that distinguish Reggio Emilia’s methods from other child-centred approaches to education:

  • Children are capable of constructing their own learning
  • Community is important and children learn by collaborating with their communities
  • Humans are natural communicators and children should be encouraged to express themselves
  • The environment is the third teacher and must be enriching and supportive
  • Teachers are children’s partners, nurturers and guides helping them explore their interests through projects
  • Children’s learning must be documented
